SMG Cares: Empowering Communities and Driving Sustainable Change

At SMG, Corporate Social Investment (CSI) is more than just a corporate initiative, it’s a fundamental part of our culture. For SMG, CSI is not a seasonal or one-off event, it’s an ongoing commitment to the communities SMG dealerships operate in. By consistently supporting and encouraging all SMG dealerships to engage in CSI activities year-round to create a lasting and meaningful impact, ensuring all efforts are sustainable and continue to drive positive change for years to come.

Strengthening Women’s Empowerment and Sustainability

SMG’s commitment to empowering women is evident in our partnership with the Siyazisiza Trust and Shukela Training Centre at BMW Ballito. Through an NQF Level 4 Plant Production Learnership, SMG has been able to support 11 young women in agriculture, providing them with the skills to thrive in a male-dominated industry.

Empowering Change Through Education and Entrepreneurship

One of the highlights of SMG’s CSI journey this year is the new partnership with Durban University of Technology (DUT). Through the EmpowerEDpreneurs initiative, SMG has successfully bridged the gap between academia, entrepreneurship, and social upliftment.

Making a Difference in Vulnerable Communities

Supporting vulnerable communities is central to our CSI efforts. Every year SMG contributes to Faith Village in Cape Town to help with staff upskilling, community program development, and care for orphaned children. SMG also took part in the annual Rally to Read initiative and BMW Constantia initiated a “Night on the Street Fundraiser” where CEO’s and influential
persons from the Western Cape spent a night on the cold Cape Town streets to raise money and awareness for homelessness.

Nurturing Youth and Talent Development

SMG understands the power of nurturing young talent. Through the Phepsi Buthelezi Scholarship Foundation, SMG has proudly sponsored Mthokozisi Twala, enabling him to pursue his education and rugby career. This initiative, along with our ongoing support for sports development through KZN Rugby, reflects our belief in the importance of fostering youth potential in every sphere of life.

A Culture of Giving

The most exciting aspect of SMG’s CSI efforts is that they are not limited to a specific project or region; they form an integral part of the SMG culture. From supporting orphanages like the Verulam Child & Welfare Society to fostering sustainable change through SMG’s partnership with the Sharks, driving a culture of giving that will continue to thrive for years to
come.
