ABSA Ride & Drive – Franschoek Motor Museum

Clients enjoyed a delicious continental breakfast and tour of our state of the arts BMW Future Retail Showroom in Century City before heading off to experience sheer driving pleasure in our carefully selected range of BMW’s.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Upon arrival at Anthonij Rupert Wine Estate clients were escorted by tram to the Anthonij Rupert Tasting Room where they received a private tour of Mr Rupert’s Cellar and a briefing on the manufacturing process. We would have to agree that it’s certainly not as easy to make as it is to drink.

Thereafter clients enjoyed a tour of the Franschhoek Motor Museum and an antipasti lunch at the estate’s restaurant Terra Del Cappo Restaurant.

BMW Plant Rosslyn Gears Up For The Next Generation

We are thrilled to inform you of recent developments to Plant Rosslyn in preparation of the imminent production of the all-new BMW X3 (G01). An 8-week shut down period occurred that involved over 1,4 million man hours between 1 700 personnel to prepare the iconic facility for its future.

Care 4 Water By SMG 2017

On Thursday, 30th March 2017, SMG South Coast, BMW Group Financial Services associates and American Waves for Water ambassadors delivered 350 water filters valued at R 400 000.00 to two Wards in the Ugu district, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. The Ugu district has been riddled with a water crisis for several years now. An array of challenges including poor infrastructure, corruption and a much needed upgrade to the water purification system, coupled with the current drought, means local community members don’t have access to clean drinking water. Therefore, water is currently being accessed from untreated community rivers and dams.

Reliance on water tankers to supplement the water shortage means the residents have, at times, gone several days without a single drop of water in the area. SMG South Coast in collaboration with BMW Financial Services Waves for Water, made it their personal mission to improve the lives of these community members by providing access to clean water through the distribution of 350 portable water filters to churches, schools, Crèches, Mobile clinics and other stakeholders within the area.

A Waves for Water ambassador, lead a demonstration with the community stakeholders to show how this innovative water filter solution has the potential to provide 10 000 people access to clean water, thus preventing waterborne diseases such as Cholera, Typhoid and E-Coli. After the demonstration, the SMG South Coast and BMW Financial Services staff gave one-on-one training to the community members to ensure they had a good understanding of how to use and maintain the filters.

Over the past few months BMW Group Financial Services has globally been on a quest to raise $500 000 in order to provide 10 000 water filters that can produce clean, drinkable water to over 1 000 000 people in need. To date, they have globally managed to raise $321 456 which has funded water filter rollouts in Mexico, China, Brazil and Thailand ensuring thousands of people are now able to access clean water for the first time.

South Africa was chosen for the 2017 Care4Water rollout.

With the ongoing donations and support from all the markets world-wide, the members of the Ugu district on the South Coast will now be able to safely drink water without the concern of water-borne diseases. Fortune recently released its list of the ‘World’s Most Admired Companies’ for 2017, with BMW being the most admired automotive company.

Fortune recently released its list of the ‘World’s Most Admired Companies’ for 2017, with BMW being the most admired automotive company. Ranking 21, BMW was ahead of the next car company on the list, coming in 34th place, Toyota. Fortune collaborated with Korn Ferry Hay Group on this survey of corporate reputations. The list began with a universe of about 1,500 candidates: the 1,000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue, along with non-U.S. companies in Fortune’s Global 500 database that have revenues of $10 billion or more.

To select the 50 All-Stars, Korn Ferry Hay Group asked 3,800 executives, directors, and securities analysts who had responded to the industry surveys to select the 10 companies they admired most. They chose from a list made up of the companies that ranked in the top 25% in last year’s surveys, plus those that finished in the top 20% of their industry. Anyone could vote for any company in any industry.

The list includes the likes of Apple (1), Starbucks (3), Facebook (9), Nike (12) and Coca-Cola (16).

Both BMW and Toyota fell a few places since last year, BMW occupied the 21st spot on the list (18th last year), Toyota at number 34 (28th last year). Both carmakers managed to edge out other companies like Nestle (36), PepsiCo (39), Accenture (41), Intel (46), McDonald’s (48) and Visa (49).

Van Zyl’s SA Open ace wins R1.9m BMW

Cape Town – South African golfer Jaco van Zyl bagged a hole-in-one in Round 2 at the SA Open, earning him a brand new BMW i8!

LIVE SCORING from the SA Open

Using a 4-iron, 37-year-old Van Zyl aced the par-3, 17th hole on Friday morning.

Van Zyl would go on to sign for a round of 7-under par, 65, to sit 8-under at the halfway mark.

According to Wheels24, the car is worth R1.9m!

Only the winner of this year’s tournament, who will pocket nearly R2.3m, will earn more than Van Zyl this week.

The First 5 Series Changed It All for BMW

The E12 is a desirable classic 45 years later, and it’s the car that made BMW a true legend.

So, here’s a rundown of what made the first 5 Series so special. And it’s not just the fact that it was the first BMW to have its turn signal stalks on the left side, since they probably weren’t used back then, either.

After BMW got back on its feet thanks to the money made on the New Class cars, it was time to step up their game for the seventies. What started out in 1970 as the wild Bertone 2200 ti Garmisch concept was turned into a production vehicle by BMW design boss Paul Bracq, only to hit the streets in 1972 with a four-cylinder engine producing a modest 90 horsepower. BMW switched to a three-digit naming format for the first 5 Series, and a year after the 518, the 525 arrived with a 150 horsepower straight-six. The Bavarians were now on the right track.

Solex carburetors were slowly replaced by mechanical fuel injection, a facelift in 1976 added a ‘power bulge’ to the hood and wider taillights to the rear, while just two years before the end, BMW introduced the M535i. This was the predecessor of the M5, featuring a 3.5 liter engine from the E24 635CSi, a sporty body kit and Recaro seats, a close-ratio gearbox with a limited-slip differential, larger brakes, plus the steering wheel out of a BMW M1. Talk about cool!

BMW claims it sold “almost 700,000 E12s” between 1972 and 1981, and that’s correct as far as German production goes, which stopped after 699,094 units. Yet in South Africa, BMW’s first foreign factory, another 23,100 were built up until 1984, for the local market only. The rest of the world had the E28 by then.

The rear-mounted fuel filler door was gone for good.
