Jaguar Land Rover annual Dealer Awards 2022

At the recent Jaguar Land Rover annual Dealer Awards Conference held in Cape Town, SMG Jaguar Land Rover Hillcrest once again took home the coveted title of Dealer of The Year.

This prestigious award is presented annually to the dealership that stands out above the rest for their exceptional customer service, sales performance and all-round dealership performance, as well as upholding the values aligned with these synonymous brands.  “We would like to thank our incredibly dedicated team and our valued customers, this would not be possible without their trust and support.” – Dealer Principal, Peter Caley.

This is the 5th time that SMG has been honoured with this title, with Hillcrest previously also receiving top honours in 2014, 2018 and 2019, and Pietermaritzburg in 2020. SMG also walked away with the National Group of The Year Award, a testament to the entire group’s dedication to excellence.

These accolades recognise SMG Jaguar Land Rover, and in particular, the Hillcrest branch, for their passion and dedication to customer service excellence, and sets the standard for what promises to be another exciting year ahead for SMG Jaguar Land Rover.

There’s no doubt that the new Range Rover and Range Rover sport are the pinnacle of luxury and dynamic handling, but now we can add safely to that long list of achievements. Recently, both models were awarded a maximum five-star Euro NCAP rating, with individual scores among the highest tested. These new models join the long list of Range Rovers to achieve a five-star rating under the stringent Euro NCAP safety protocols introduced in 2009.

New Range Rover scored 87% for child occupant safety and 72% for vulnerable users safety, with Range Rover Sport achieving 85% for adult occupant safety and 82% for Safety Assist.

These exceptional safety ratings come on the back of years of intensive design, engineering and manufacturing by the Jaguar Land Rover team using strong mixed-metal technology and cutting-edge active safety systems like Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).

But safety doesn’t stop on the exterior. Both vehicles are also equipped with Cabin Air Purification Pro1, a pioneering system that takes interior air quality to the next level, monitoring CO₂ levels inside the vehicles and automatically introducing fresh external air when required, keeping the driver alert all the time.

The Land Rover Experience: Duzi2Sani

A weekend of tourism activity and community experiences, culminating in an ascent of a snow laden Sani Pass, were the highlights of the Land Rover Experience – a proactive initiative involving celebrities and stake holders in the promotion of local attractions and the strengthening of a joint Pietermaritzburg – Lesotho tourism partnership.

Now in its third year, the experience ranged from steam train excursions, traditional gumboot dancing and school tree planting ceremonies to a visit to the Nelson Mandela capture site, adventure paddle boating and a food tasting festival. The cherry on the top was a convoy ascent of the rugged 42 kilometre Sani Pass – one of the most spectacular mountain passes in Africa – and the opportunity to raise a traditional toast in the highest pub on the continent.

Land Rover Pietermaritzburg sales manager Brendon Meintjies said that participants in the experience included government officials, community stakeholders, tourism entrepreneurs, media personalities and television stars Leleti Khumalo and Naymaps Maphala from the popular series Uzalo. “It was a fantastic success, and a wonderful opportunity for the proactive promotion of a number of related initiatives” he said. ” All the participants embraced the spirit of the experience, which was clearly illustrated on the Sani Pass when during photo stops impromptu snow fights were very much the order of the day.”

In addition to fun opportunities, he said the snow on the Sani Pass added a sense of adventure to the experience. “The first time a vehicle successfully climbed the pass was in 1948, when it took 12 hours to get to the top” he explained. “Today it takes a lot less, particularly in a Land Rover 4×4, but it is still an incredibly dramatic drive and a thrilling African experience, with the road snaking upwards beneath towering cliffs and past tumbling waterfalls. Among the final hairpins is a waterfall that remains frozen from May to September.”

The Land Rover Experience is seen by SMG and Land Rover Pietermaritzburg as part of an on-going commitment to give something meaningful back to the community. It is designed to not only focus attention on the activities and attractions of tourism orientated initiatives, but through such involvement, to embrace and foster local communities.

Jaguar Land Rover Enlists Gorillaz’ Noodle As New Global Brand Ambassador

This might be one of the weirdest spokesperson partnerships ever.

Fifteen years ago Gorillaz, the “virtual” band created by Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, released its first album. It sold millions of copies, was nominated for the 2001 Mercury Prize, and confirmed the world was ready for a band entirely made up of cartoon characters. It didn’t hurt that “Clint Eastwood” was dope and the artwork was just as sick.

Now iconic British automaker Jaguar Land Rover has named the band’s (totally fictional) Japanese guitarist Noodle as its new global brand ambassador, to connect with young people as the company plans to promote its role in shaping the future by aiming to help solve technology innovation and skills gap challenges.

Fiona Pargeter, Global PR Communications Director, Jaguar Land Rover says that by 2022 there will be a shortfall of 300,000 skilled engineers in the UK alone and it’s part of the brand’s responsibility to change that by inspiring young people. “As a business we recognize the importance of inspiring the next generation of engineers to help fill the global skills gap, but also raise awareness of the Jaguar brand and the FIA Formula E Championship,” she says.

“To do this we wanted to work with a partner that would enable us to reach and engage a completely new audience. Our aim was to produce exciting and engaging content that would help us convince young people what a brilliant, inspiring, creative and diverse career engineering can be in today’s world.”

And if picking a cartoon member of a band whose first album came out when most of the target audience was in diapers seems an odd choice, the brand points to the data on Gorillaz fans that tells another story. “Gorillaz have a huge global following and 42% of Gorillaz’ YouTube views are from 18-24 year olds, with key interests including science, technology, and video games,” says Pargeter.

On the 7th of September SMG and the Entrepreneurs Organisation embarked on a breakfast run from the SMG Durban Dealership to Zimbali and back. The Entrepreneurs Organisation boasts some of the most dynamic business owners in the world and the Durban Chapter is no different. It was an absolute privilege and pleasure for SMG to rub shoulders with these unique, trend setting individuals.

The fleet that was used encompassed a high performance range of vehicles in the SMG stable and the banter became quite special, each telling the other about their experience driving the cars. The exhilaration, power and luxury brought out the inner child in everyone, with games of top trumps an on-going occurrence.
